Amadeus Julian Regucera is a Bay Area native, born and raised in San Jose. He began musical studies at an early age, developing his skills first as a pianist, then as a guitarist, percussionist, and songwriter. After a brief hiatus, he returned to music as an undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego. His exposure to the Music Department’s keen emphasis on Twentieth Century practice in theory, performance, and notably, composition reignited a latent desire to create. Working with Philippe Manoury, Harvey Sollberger, and Chinary Ung, Amadeus began to shape a personal musical voice. After completing the Honors program in Music Composition, he graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. and was accepted to the MA/PhD Composition program at the University of California, Berkeley where he studies with Cindy Cox and Edmund Campion. His interests include (electro-acoustic) chamber music, post-punk, progressive rock, electronica, and art theory/philosophy.
Recent work includes the upcoming choral work “rituel laïque (or, immaterial labour)”; “TRIGGER” for two vocalists, mixed ensemble, and electronics, performed by the Worn Chamber Ensemble with Sheila Willey and Annelisa Pedersen; the string quartet, “(the) pornography of VIOLENCE,” performed November 28th at Hertz Hall by Karen Shinozaki (Adorno Ensemble), Rick Shinozaki (Del Sol Quartet), Charlton Lee (Del Sol), and Leighton Fong (SFCMP).
